From the time I was a little girl, I remember "helping" my dad make his famous chocolate chip cookies. In 6th grade, I did a demonstration speech on "how to make chocolate chip cookies" and passed out the cookies at the end. I remember one boy from my class coming up to me at the end, trying to write down the specifics of the recipe (because who actually pays attention to other people's presentations in 6th grade) because they were the best cookie he'd ever had.Â
Our baking wasn't limited to chocolate chip cookies though. Some of my fondest childhood memories came in the kitchen: making cupcakes, muffins, fudge, etc. We made sugar cookies every Christmas and we all got to help decorate them with buttercream icing (although, notably, my mom's were the best - at that time my goal was to see how many M&Ms or sprinkles I could fit on my cookies). My mom took a cake decorating class when we were little and always made our birthday cakes in whatever theme we picked out, no matter how complex. While by no means do I specialize in cakes, I do enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone and making my sons' birthday cakes each year.
